Mark Hancock Brings ‘Big 4’ Tax and Business Advisory Experience to Help
Exempt Organizations Achieve their Financial Goals
SAN FRANCISCO, November 16, 2011: Hood & Strong LLP, a leading Bay Area accounting and business consulting firm, has announced that Mark Hancock, an attorney with more than a decade of not-for-profit expertise, has joined the firm as Tax Director, Exempt Organizations.
Hancock comes to Hood & Strong from Ernst & Young LLP, where he most recently served as Northwest Market Leader and Senior Manager of the firm’s Exempt Organizations Tax Services practice group, covering a territory stretching from Northern California to Alaska. At E&Y, he provided tax advisory, planning, compliance and business consulting services to a wide range of exempt organizations across the U.S. and internationally, including public charities, private foundations, schools and universities, charitable trusts, religious organizations, trade associations and healthcare providers. He has extensive experience in planned giving, unrelated business income tax and excise tax analysis, FIN 48 and FAS 117 matters, international taxation, and financing transactions.
Previously, Hancock practiced law as a tax attorney at Jones Day in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for organizing and advising the firm’s exempt clients on a wide range of financial issues, including joint ventures, domestic and cross-border reorganizations, and mergers and acquisitions.

Hancock, 37, holds a B.A. in Economics from Syracuse University, a J.D. cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law, and an LL.M. with Distinction from Georgetown University Law Center. He lives in San Francisco.
