Tanko Lighting was founded in San Francisco in 2003 with a simple mission – to help reduce the waste stream from street lighting. Originally started as a green manufacturer of refurbished street light fixtures, the company has evolved to a full service, technology-driven business model that incorporates design/build services, product procurement, engineering/technical support, and project management services to provide a tailored, turnkey solution for any outdoor lighting project. With more than 30 local employees and 10 years of experience, the company recently launched its “Brilliant Solutions” division to provide turnkey services to help customers implement comprehensive energy-efficient street light conversion projects. Guided by the core values of sustainability, affordability, and superior quality, Tanko Lighting’s environmentally friendly lighting projects can now be found in communities throughout the Bay Area and across the U.S.
Tanko Lighting Vice President Clare Bressani says the company chose to work with Hood & Strong because of the firm’s deep expertise in the manufacturing sector; its commitment to helping Tanko Lighting navigate and succeed in today’s evolving small business tax environment; and its shared emphasis on environmental and social responsibility. “We conducted interviews with other accounting firms, and found that not only were Hood & Strong’s rates very competitive, but the partners’ personalities and approaches matched the way that we do business,” she said. “We instantly connected with the team and already feel that they provide us with tremendous resources and value. And, they even offer validated parking!”
With headquarters in an Economic Enterprise Zone in San Francisco, Tanko Lighting proudly hires the majority of its workforce from surrounding neighborhoods, and is contributing to the economic revitalization of the city’s diverse communities.
