SAN JOSE, CA (November 1, 2022) — Hood & Strong Assurance and Advisory Partner Robert Raffo has received the Distinguished Volunteer Fundraiser Award from the Silicon Valley chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). A recognized community leader, Raffo is being honored for his board service with the Center for Excellence in Nonprofits (CEN), which is dedicated to improving the long-term sustainability of nonprofit leaders and organizations. Raffo has served on the CEN Board of Directors since 2016, as Chair for two years and currently as Vice Chair.
“Bob has been a tremendous asset to the Center for Excellence in Nonprofits and its board over the last six years,” said CEN Chief Executive Officer Shana Peete, JD. “His service as board chair coincided with – and was a major factor – in CEN’s record growth and increased financial position even during the pandemic. Bob is a champion for IDEAL (inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and liberation) for our board, staff and community. It brings all of us at CEN great pleasure and pride to see him receive this honor.”
During his distinguished 40-plus-year career with Hood & Strong, Raffo established the firm’s highly successful Not-for-Profit Service Group and went on to serve as Managing Partner for 10 years. In addition to working with business and individual clients, Hood & Strong serves nonprofit organizations throughout the Bay Area and the West, including private foundations, social service agencies, arts and educational institutions, membership organizations, and research and development entities, among others.
“I share this award with my colleagues at Hood & Strong, and with the nonprofit leaders with whom I have, and have had, the privilege to work,” Raffo said. “It’s inspiring to be part of a firm and a community where philanthropy and volunteerism help make our communities stronger and better places for all of us.”
In addition to his CEN board involvement, Raffo currently serves as Co-chair of the Advisory Board of Oakwood Retirement Community of the Religious of the Sacred Heart. He previously served on the boards of Joint Venture Silicon Valley and Services for Brain Injury.
Raffo will be honored by AFP along with fellow Silicon Valley philanthropists, volunteers, and fundraising and nonprofit professionals on November 4, 2022. For more information on the Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day awards luncheon, please visit the AFP website.
